What’s this all about?

My friend Ian [founder of showmedo] has been hassling me for a while to make a painting tutorial video, and this is the result.

However, this is more than just a video to be watched passively, it’s an invocation to action! I’m providing not only detailed instructions, but also the raw materials required to make your own version of the painting, which means you really have no excuse not to give it a try.

Art is often portrayed as ‘difficult’ and the reserve of ‘artists’, this is simply not the case. Anyone with the right attitude can make art. Obviously some techniques require years of practice, but the act of artistic expression is available to everyone.

It’s not that hard to make your own Bushfinger, in fact I’d venture to say that anyone can make one.

Is Bushfinger an Anti-Bush Painting?

Look at him there, making a foul and irresponsible gesture to the world! The man is clearly an idiot, and a dangerous one at that.

Is Bushfinger a Pro-Bush Painting?

Look at him there, flipping the bird at all his detractors, he’s clearly a strong leader, unafraid to take a moral stand against those who misunderstand the God-given right of America to police the world in the interests of Global Capitalism.

What about Creative Commons?

The keen eyed visitor will note that the original Bushfinger was licensed under a Creative Commons license. However, this was a mistake on my part. I was trying to encourage others to take the ‘concept’ of the Bushfinger [the image of Bush, the Jung quote and an American flag] and play with it. It turns out you can’t copyright an idea, hence you can’t give it a Creative Commons license either.

So, I’ve removed that license, because it was nonsense.

However, everything else associated with the Bushfinger is available under a Creative Commons license. And that means everything, the images and files, the PDF and even the video, if you fancy having a go at remixing it.

This idea will only get more interesting and provocative the more people play with it - so go play!
