{"id":618,"date":"2012-11-22T17:41:58","date_gmt":"2012-11-22T16:41:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.shardcore.org\/shardpress\/?p=618"},"modified":"2012-11-22T17:41:58","modified_gmt":"2012-11-22T16:41:58","slug":"radio-eris","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.shardcore.org\/spx\/2012\/11\/22\/radio-eris\/","title":{"rendered":"Radio Eris"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My friend <a href=http:\/\/jmrhiggs.blogspot.co.uk\/>JMR Higgs<\/a> has written a book, an excellent book in fact, called <b>KLF: Chaos Magic Music Money<\/b>, concerning the influence of <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Anton_Wilson>Robert Anton Wilson<\/a> on the British rave band <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Klf>The KLF<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div style=\"float:left;padding:20px;\">\n<a href=http:\/\/radioeris.com target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img src=\/images\/radioeris1.jpg height=300><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=http:\/\/radioeris.com target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">listen<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The book takes in the themes of <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Discordianism>Discordianism<\/a> and the works of Robert Anton Wilson as a way of explaining why the KLF, as <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/K_Foundation>The K Foundation<\/a> <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/K_Foundation_Burn_a_Million_Quid>burnt a million quid<\/a> in 1994.<br \/>\nI suggested to John that we could create an audio version of the book, read by a speech synthesiser, and release it in a limited form. However nothing digital is ever really limited these days, so we decided against simple downloadable file.<br \/>\nOne of the key themes of the book is time, the notion of events being related to each other in time and space. For this reason, we decided that this should occur not as a time-shiftable podcast, but something which passes through time, never to be repeated.<br \/>\nSo I built an algorithmic radio station.<br \/>\nRadio Eris is made up of a corpus of audio samples from many sources including: The KLF, Robert Anton Wilson, <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alan_Moore>Alan Moore<\/a>, <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ivor_Cutler>Ivor Cutler<\/a>, <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dr_who>Dr Who<\/a>, <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Subgenius>SubGenius<\/a> and discussions of <a hrefhttp:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Quantum_mechanics>Quantum Mechanics<\/a> and <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Chaos_theory>Chaos Theory<\/a>.<br \/>\nThe background ambient sounds are generated from KLF tracks, stretched to 8x their normal speed.<br \/>\nThe order of the programming is controlled by the <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Eris_(mythology)>Eris<\/a> of the modern age, <a href=http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pseudo-random_number_generator>the pseudo random number generator<\/a>.
